Tonnage to MRFs increases

The total tonnage of mixed material entering MRFs in England in the final quarter of last year has increased on the previous three-month period.

According to the latest figures in a report from WRAP, 823,499 tonnes entered MRFs in England during Q4 2017.

This is 12,414 tonnes or 1.5% more than the previous quarter, which showed the second lowest input tonnage since reporting started.

There has been some variation in input tonnes since reporting started in Q4 2014. Although there was a slight spike in Q4 2016, Input tonnes then declined in following four quarters, with a fall of 60,907 tonnes.

The previous quarter (Q3 2017) showed the lowest input tonnage since reporting started, but this has increased during the latest quarter (Q4 2017) by 87,349 tonnes.

The average percentage (by weight) of target material received by responding MRFs in Q4 2017 was 85.6%, similar to the previous quarter.
