Veolia is to launch an online trading platform for organic resources named BioTrading, which it said would provide the opportunity to buy and sell the 100 million tonnes produced every year of raw materials and biofuels.
The BioTrading website will be a sales and auction marketplace created because of the current lack of any price comparison or trading platform for organic resources, Veolia said.
By dealing with each other directly, sellers will get maximum value from their waste and process by-products, and buyers will have access to transparent and fair prices.
Raquel Carrasco, organics and technology director at Veolia UK, said: “Our website is the missing link for the UK’s organic resources, and represents a real step forward in innovation. By operating as an agile trading platform, it is a financial and environmental win-win for buyer and seller.”
Resources to be traded on the website include food waste, food for redistribution, industrial organic by-products, agricultural wastes, biodiesel and bioethanol residues, sewage and industrial sludge and wood.
Buyers will be able make use of compliant haulage services if required.
