Let robots do the fast and furious picking

Helsinki-based technology company ZenRobotics has launched its Next Generation ZenRobotics Recycler (ZRR).

The robotic waste sorting system doubles the capacity of the first system introduced in 2012. The latest system is already in operation at the Sita Suomi sorting plant in Helsinki.

The Next Generation ZRR incorporates both the speed of the previous model Fast Picker and the strength of the Heavy Picker in one multipurpose solution.

Timo Taalas, chief executive of ZenRobotics, said: “We have focused on dramatically improving speed and capacity, developing new hardware that enables fully automated waste sorting. Now we are breaking speed records.”

The Next Generation ZRR can sort on average 3,000 picks per hour and has a peak sorting speed of up to 4,000 picks per hour. Features include a gripper that can pick bigger and heavier objects, meaning fractions up to 50cm wide and 20kg in weight are no longer a problem.

The system is particularly suited to demanding heavy waste processing environments that operate 24/7, including the sorting of heavy and large fractions within construction or industrial waste.
