Loaders for tight spaces

Brentwood-based Rhino Plant Hire has purchased the first two Bobcat S450 skid-steer loaders in the UK, with one out for hire by KCP Demolition on a central London job.

The machine is being used for demolition work on Hercules House in Lambeth, best known as the home of the former Government Central Office of Information, which is being converted into a 438-bedroom hotel.

KCP is stripping out the nine-storey building, taking away debris from the internal stairways, office partitions, ventilation systems, and internal and external claddings. The internal columns and tight spaces limit access for and movement of machines onsite, but the compact dimensions of the S450 have allowed it to collect and remove everything from the demolition process.

Keith Plenty, KCP Demolition director, said: “The Bobcat S450 skid-steer loader is an excellent tool for demolition work. It is a small machine suited to the restricted space work.”

As well as a rated operating capacity of 608kg and tipping load of 1,215kg, the S450 has a height to bucket hinge pin with the arms in the fully raised position of 2,781mm and a dump height of 2,157mm.”

Plenty added: “The impressive load capacity and dump height have made it very easy for us to use the S450 to dump debris through windows and chutes and into the large waste containers on-site.”
