Monitors boost earnings

Wigan-based Blakeley’s Recycling has equipped its fleet of vehicles with dynamic bin-weighing and a purpose-built back office system, which has streamlined the businesses’ activities and improved its earnings by more than £1m a year.

The increasing cost of waste processing, recycling and disposal was having a negative effect on its bottom line. But without proper analysis of customers’ bins, the company was unable to charge the appropriate amount, based on bin weight, and it began losing money on some collections.

Graeme Knight, managing director, said: “We couldn’t pinpoint where the really heavy loads were coming from so we did not know where we were losing money.”

So Blakeley’s worked with software developers to build PurGo, specifically geared to waste management operations.

It allows operators to track orders and collections, manage vehicle scheduling and dispatch workloads/run sheets, as well as keeping vehicles roadworthy.

PurGo takes weights directly from each Enviroweigh system, supplied by VWS, and analyses the figures to produce accurate billing. The billing process includes one-click invoicing, and integrates with popular accounting packages.

VWS has now partnered with the developers to bring PurGo to market.
