B&A Handling, based at Hull Docks, has replaced a pair of wheeled loaders with Weidemann 5080T telescopic boom models for their combination of speed, driver visibility and reliability.
The handling company, established about a year ago, is on track to handle more than 300,000 plastic wrapped bales of waste-derived fuel a year. The loaders are used to unload and stack the bales from around 20 lorries a day, and then to re-handle them in preparation for transfer into ship holds by a multi-docker machine.
B&A’s initial pair of loaders suffered major gearbox problems caused by the constant forward and reverse travel on hard surfaces. The company therefore decided to look for replacements that featured hydrostatic drive in order to eliminate the problem.
Bob Smales, partner at B&A, said: “The articulated Weidemann machines are just the right size for handling the 1.1-tonne bales. They use about 10% less fuel than previous models.”
The machines were supplied by Russell Group, Weidemann’s Yorkshire dealer.
