Biffa 'seeking merger partner'

Biffa may be seeking to further consolidate the waste management industry through a merger, according to reports.

Sky News correspondent Mark Kleinman reported that Biffa’s owners led by Global Infrastructure Partners and Montagu Private Equity had hired Goldman Sachs to “scour the sector for consolidation opportunities, according to people close to the company”.

Kleinman says there have already been discussions with other major players in the waste management industry. Other insiders, he said, inducated that talks could lead to the sale of Biffa.

Biffa’s owners bought rival company Greenstar for £135m in 2010.

There has been no official response from Biffa.
