Industry welcomes wood waste storage proposals

Comment

When dealing with highly combustible materials, such as wood waste, a simple roof canopy can be an effective way of reducing risk and demonstrating compliance – as the EA suggests. Covering waste materials, gives some protection from airborne ignition sources – such as the famous Chinese lantern incident at a recycling plant in Smethwick in 2013 (http://ow.ly/I1ntP). Canopies also help control moisture levels and therefore, the risk of spontaneous combustion.
