Rotate and grab on mobile plant

What is your product?

BPH Attachments is the sole UK importer of the ProDem range of attachments, which includes selector grabs, hydraulic breakers, shears, multiprocessors and compactors.

How does it work?

ProDem selector grabs are attached to the front end of mobile plant equipment such as hydraulic excavators. The grab’s movement, which includes opening, closing and rotating, is powered by the host machine’s hydraulic system. A variety of different sized grabs are available for excavators ranging in size from 1.5 to 200 tonnes.

Where would it ideally be used?

ProDem grabs are ideal for secondary demolition duties and sorting demolition arisings on-site. For waste and recycling, they can pre-screen incoming waste by segregating and removing oversize pieces of material. Selector grab-equipped excavators can also load high-sided bulker lorries and recycling machinery such as screeners, shredders and balers in an efficient manner.

Where has it been used?

Waste management specialist Lanz Group is utilising a ProDem rotating grab at its MRF in Colnbrook, Berkshire. The PSG200-D grab is hosted by a three-tonne mini-digger, and is handling plastic and cardboard recovered from construction and demolition waste processed at the site.

Any savings?

ProDem grabs offer operators a low cost of ownership as they are robust and reliable. Through BPH’s nationwide dealer support network, parts are readily available and affordable. The selector grabs help to reduce track wear on the host excavator by negating excessive machine repositioning.

What about maintenance?

Regular greasing of the ProDem grab is essential with frequency dependent on usage levels. Although basic maintenance tasks can be carried out in-house, BPH Attachments offers a nationwide maintenance service which guarantees reliable ownership for end-users.

What is its life span?

Life span is dependent on a number of factors, including application, utilisation levels, operator competency and adherence to servicing schedules. A well maintained, carefully operated ProDem rotating grab will last for many years.

Any future applications?

Modified ProDem selector grabs are proving increasingly popular in wood handling operations and forestry work. By replacing the grab’s shells with tines, the attachment can efficiently clear bushes, handle tree trunks and feed shredding plant with green waste.
