Shredders saved from shock

What is your product?

A hydraulic drive option for shredders available from Fercell Engineering’s Weima UK division.

How does it work?

Choosing a hydraulic drive lets your shredders endure an unlimited number of stops, starts and reversals, even in the most severe environments.

With their built-in overload protection, they resist both constant shock loads and stalling conditions. This safeguards not only a shredder’s components, but also its uptime reliability and availability.

Where would it ideally be used?

Harsh materials processing, delivering significant energy cost savings by eliminating energy peaks.

With the same motor output, the rotor speed can also be increased while retaining the torque at a high level. This offers high throughput capacity.

What benefits does it offer?

It has a simple drive arrangement and no complex electronics. It has many motors so it is easy to select the optimum size. There are many permutations of power/pump units to provide exactly what is needed.

The hydraulic drive provides full torque from zero to maximum speed in both forward and reverse, and speed control from zero to full speed. Full power can be utilised at any speed within the maximum pressure and maximum speed for the motor concerned.

The hydraulic drive offers excellent load control to protect blades and machine. It is fully shock and vibration resistant; heavy duty as standard; and gives four quadrant operation driving and braking in both directions.

It is compact, saving space and weight, and can be positioned conveniently out of the way.

Where has it been used?

A typical application is processing high-density lump plastic and similar harsh materials processing, where a high demand is made on shredding function to meet output requirements.

Any savings?

Significant savings are available through energy consumption efficiency, operational flexibility and plant safeguards to shredder components.

What about maintenance?

Hydraulic drives do not escape inclusion in the company maintenance programme. But they probably do not demand as frequent attention.

What is the lifespan?

Fercell offers the FercellCare machine maintenance packages, providing customers with peace of mind during the machine’s lifetime.

Any future applications?

Hydraulic drives are usually specified for the heavier industrial-style of applications such as for refuse-derived fuel or energy from waste. But there is also an increasing inclusion in mid-range machine purchases. Probably the benefits outweigh the initial cost when all is considered.

How many have you sold and where?

With more than 950 current UK applications in operation, it is Fercell’s policy to specify the optimum machine specification to application. Both transmission options are usually discussed and offered at the time of quotation.
