More money from producers is coming, but that can't be spent on more of the same.
Comment on: Litter strategy 'missed opportunity'
The contention that producers are responsible for litter is entirely erroneous. Littering is behavioural and the consequence of an individual decision to discard material illegally. It is a petty crime and has nothing to do with producers. To suggest otherwise is insult the intelligence of most people and looks like a thinly veiled money grab by those seeking to funnel funding into their sector. The real answer is to give Councils greater powers to punish those guilty of littering and hypothecate fines to support the cost of clean up.
