Redcar’s steel plant, reopened in April 2012 by SSI UK, has produced its two-millionth tonne of steel.
SSI UK chief executive Phil Dryden said it was another important milestone for the former Corus plant.
The plant processes thousands of tonnes of ferrous scrap metal a week.
He added: “We are looking forward to a further significant ramping up of our production rate during the course of 2013 after the coal injection project starts up.
“It’s really important that we now demonstrate the potential of this business to our parent company and all of the stakeholders who have supported us during the past year.”
The works was taken over by the Thai firm in 2010, a year after it was mothballed with the loss of 1,600 jobs.
