Ecosurety invests in its workforce and ideas to stimulate long-term “changes for good” in the environment, even if that means taking on projects with no immediate return on investment.
The team has worked consistently and cohesively, since it was a start-up challenger in the waste and recycling industry in 2003 to becoming one of the leading producer responsibility compliance specialists in the UK.
Every Ecosurety team member’s contribution is aligned to the company’s vision. Despite its modest size, this is one of the main reasons the business punches above its weight.
The team comes together on projects. For example, the challenge of raising the company’s search engine optimisation with few external resources led to 12 team members contributing a total of 210 blogs and articles to the company’s website in 2016, on top of their day jobs. This almost doubled the number of site visits.

Every December the company chooses a CSR initiative from a number pitched by employees. The selected project is awarded internal resources and support from Ecosurety’s board members.
One such project, joinmyjourney, a free-to-use journey-share scheme, is now available to 50,000 commuters in Bristol and has received two Travelwest awards. Another, an outreach programme for primary school children called Planet Protectors, connects waste and recycling habits in local schools.
Circularety, a transparent solution to the present Packaging Recovery Note system, received internal backing, marketing and PR help, as well as cross-company resources. The team launched it in just six months, including co-ordinating a three-month PR campaign and a London launch event which involved every team member.
High performance is secured with a rigorous recruitment process, a sophisticated objectives and reward matrix, and an atmosphere that strives for continuous improvement, but also acknowledges effort. This has helped company turnover increase four-fold from 2011-15 and enabled it to secure some of the largest obligated packaging producers as members.
