Three waste sites approved at appeal

Three waste facilities are among 81 schemes so far approved on appeal by ministers including communities secretary Eric Pickles after being rejected by councils, official data has revealed.

The Financial Times has collated all the successful appeals made by developers since June 2010.

Ardley landfill site in Oxfordshire, the Severnside Energy Recovery Centre in Gloucestershire and the Cornwall Energy Recovery Centre appeared to be the three waste sites referred to in the data.

The Government pointed out that more than 9,000 appeals were made to the Planning Inspectorate in 2010/11.
