Marks & Spencer has installed a large green wall on the front of its newly-refurbished store in Newcastle.
The green wall is irrigated by rainwater and made from nearly 16,000 individual plants.
Energy saving measures inside the building are designed to enable it to reduce consumption by 20%.
Mike Barry, director of Plan A, the company’s eco and ethical programme, said: “The green wall is a real standout, and with summer just around the corner we hope it will continue to flourish”
Plan A is a Marks & Spencer’s policy launched in 2007, which the company says has led to it being carbon neutral and now sending no waste to landfill.
